NBA All-Star Weekend Goes 'Bananas'

'A lot of people take this situation for granted — I don't,' celebrity MVP Kevin Hart says of his win at Orlando game.

ORLANDO, Florida — The stars weren't just on the court Sunday night during the NBA 2012 All-Star Game in Orlando as music and Hollywood's brightest came out to watch the Eastern ballers battle against the Western stars. Before the big game, some of our favorites walked the red carpet and talked b-ball with MTV News.

"Bananas" is how actor Pooch Hall described NBA All-Star Weekend in Orlando. Comedian Kevin Hart had a few highlights, but none bigger than when he won the MVP award for Friday's celebrity all-star game. Hart led his team to victory by scoring eight points and six assists. "I played a lot this year. I knew I was going to be playing in the celebrity game. A lot of people take this situation for granted — I don't," he told MTV News in jest. "What I did was I did a lot of weight training, a lot of cardio. It paid off — my endurance was where it was supposed to be. I played 38 minutes, which is unheard of in a celebrity game."

Hart's celebrity teammate Vinny Guadagnino from MTV's "Jersey Shore" didn't fare as well on the stat sheet, but enjoyed the weekend all the same. "It's my first All-Star Game, going for the East, New York, all day," he said.

Another NYC native, Michael Rapaport, wasn't rooting for a hometown hero in the ASG. He was actually hoping that Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard would come up big and have a great outing. But it didn't happen. Instead Dwight finished with nine points for the losing Eastern Conference All-Star squad.

It was a fun but highly contested game that was decided in the final seconds. Pooch Hall just hoped that no one got hurt. Unfortunately though, L.A. Lakers guard Kobe Bryant suffered a broken nose after he was fouled hard by Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade.

Still, there didn't seem to be any hard feelings throughout the entire weekend. "For me, All-Star is about having fun, and you see all these guys who are friends hanging out and having a good time, so it makes it great," LaLa Vasquez Anthony said.

Lady Gaga's Path To Album Of The Year Race

MTV News looks back on Mother Monster's huge year and her genre-busting, Grammy-nominated album.

<P>Some artists, like <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/adele/artist.jhtml">Adele</a>, release albums that are pure <a href="/news/articles/1678825/grammy-2012-album-of-year-adele-profile.jhtml">Grammy catnip</a> thanks to instant-classic sounds that resonate with the Recording Academy's way-back contingent. Then there's Lady Gaga. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:717202" width="240" height="211"></div><p> She's been a bridesmaid twice for Album of the Year at the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/grammys">Grammys</a>, losing out on her first two releases. But with her third bid on Sunday, for <a href="/news/articles/1664105/lady-gaga-born-this-way-stream.jhtml"><i>Born This Way,</i></a> Gaga appears to have made the kind of career-defining, big-idea album that Grammy voters could not deny. It had all the things the Academy loves in an Album of the Year nominee: ambition, deeply personal tracks that provide a glimpse at the artist's psyche, bold musical explorations, strong sales and chance to prove that they're hip enough to get what the kids are listening to. (Or, in some cases, a new album by Steely Dan.) And, indeed, BTW <i>did</i> have it all, from the jackhammer electronica of "Marry the Night" to the tango-lite grooves of "Americano," the techno attack of "Heavy Metal Lover," hints of biography in "Hair," the lighter-raising ballads in "Yo&#252; and I" and "The Edge of Glory" and, of course, the title track, which served as both a dance-floor phenomenon <i>and</i> an <a href="/news/articles/1657772/lady-gaga-born-this-way.jhtml">empowerment anthem</a> for the ages. The album, one of the most anticipated of 2011, not only <a href="/news/articles/1664888/lady-gaga-billboard.jhtml">crashed the charts</a> with stellar sales figures of more than one million in its first week, but it also managed to once again bend the will of the music-buying public to meet her quirky, unpredictable muse. Gaga promised her fans that she was pouring everything she had into the disc and when it arrived, complete with a series of trippy, <a href="/news/articles/1663387/lady-gaga-judas-video.jhtml">provocative videos</a> that also pushed the envelope, they couldn't have asked for any more from their Mother Monster. Frequent musical collaborator producer Fernando Garibay said the recognition from the Recording Academy was a nice cherry-topper to a year of hard, hard work. "We worked on this album for so long and it was like our baby so it was more about if the fans would love it; that was the most important thing.," he told MTV News. "But of course, nominations, yeah, that's cool." </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:732837.id:1678680" width="240" height="211"></div><p> The first full-length effort from Gaga since her rise to international stardom, <i>Born This Way</i> allowed the singer to exorcise some demons, comment on her newfound fame and, of course, create the kind of over-the-top tracks that would lend themselves to equally eye-popping live performance. "This album was the most personal, the amount of detail that went into this record, the amount of passion and emotion from her and the team," Garibay said. "We all followed her lead on this, on every song ... how intense every avenue of making this record was for us, protecting the record, creative, conceptually, every song was a story towards the <i>Born This Way</i> theme." The video for the title track took the Best Female Video and Best Video With a Message at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. In a year in which she kept turning heads with ever-more-insane red carpet walks, Gaga fittingly raised the bar further at the show, where she performed and accepted the Female Video Moonman as her male <a href="/news/articles/1669863/lady-gaga-best-female-video-vmas.jhtml">alter ego, Jo Calderone</a>. In between those appearances, Gaga also managed to circle the globe with the Broadway-worthy <a href="/news/articles/1664768/lady-gaga-semi-precious-weapons-monster-ball.jhtml">Monster Ball Tour</a>, on which she brought the new songs to life every night in a spectacle that was the visual equal of her studio experiments. Though she worked with her core team, which includes Garibay, producer RedOne and DJ White Shadow, Gaga also opened the doors to collaborations with late Bruce Springsteen saxophonist Clarence Clemons and classic rock producer <a href="/news/articles/1669108/lady-gaga-you-and-i-music-video-premiere.jhtml">Robert "Mutt" Lange</a> and Queen guitarist Brian May, who helped give "Yo&#252; and I" its epic, AM radio majesty. Gaga was so excited to record the album that she insisted on having a portable studio with her at all times to work on new music even as she toured the world for <i>The Fame Monster,</i> RedOne said. The road work paid off, as the album has sold more than 8 million copies worldwide, spinning off a bevy of hits, including the title track, "Marry the Night," "Judas," "Yo&#252; and I" and "The Edge of Glory." And though he's been there before, RedOne added that getting another nod for the biggest Grammy honor of all is new every time. "It's an amazing thing to be nominated for the biggest thing in music industry," he said. "It's always a big honor. I get happy and I never want to get used to it." <b>Chaos! Profanity! COUPLEDOM: Regina King & Malcolm-Jamal Warner Out For DINNER DATE

"Southland" actress Regina King and her boo "Reed Between The Lines" star Malcolm Jamal Warner were spotted out having dinner in LA over the weekend.  See their pics inside and see photos of Regina's Oscar viewing party.

These two are still trying to keep their relationship under wraps (now we know y'all have been feelin' each other since your "Cosby"/"227" days), but the paps caught them wining and dining over the weekend. Malcolm and Regina were spotted dinning out at Hemingway's in Hollywood, California:

They ran past the cameras and hopped in the car together to speed off.  These two do look good together.

And speaking of Regina, last night.....

Regina and Remy Martin hosted a fabulous Oscar viewing party at The Montage Beverly Hills before heading to the Vanity Fair party.  Her bestie Tichina Arnold was among the guests.

Regina sipped a Remy specialty cocktail, L'Originee, while mingling with Steven McDaniel  and Jill Scott.  And though they weren't photographed together, you can see Malcolm in the back.

She also posed it up with Karina Smirnoff.  Fab times.

'Hunger Games' And 'Twilight' Oddly Absent From Oscars

'Harry Potter,' meanwhile, was shut out of its two nominations — but couldn't the YA franchises' stars get involved?
By Kara Warner

There's still a lot to discuss and digest from the 2012 Oscars, from the glitz and glamour, to the surprises, snubs and glaring omissions.

Speaking to the snubs and omissions category, MTV News couldn't help but notice that, for an awards show designed to appeal to all movie fans, three of the most buzz-worthy film franchises of the last decade were mostly left out of the festivities: "Harry Potter," "Twilight" and "The Hunger Games."

This is not a story about the lack of nominations for the films; we've already complained about the "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2" shutout and "The Hunger Games" hasn't even been released yet. But why not involve a few of these noteworthy films' castmembers in the telecast? We consulted a few experts on the subject.

"I think this year is more glaring than most, for sure," said Entertainment Weekly senior writer Sara Vilkomerson. "Personally, I'm surprised there was not a lot of 'Potter' stuff; that was a very lucrative franchise for a lot of people and really critically acclaimed, the last movie. I feel like there was a definite lack of youth. I know in my house, when the 'Hunger Games' ad came on, it felt a little more exciting than certain parts of the telecast."

"The Academy obviously went out of their way to acknowledge the lack of youth appeal — but a handful of jokes in Billy Crystal's video montage and a little token Bieber isn't enough to fix it," added Brooke Tarnoff, senior editor for NextMovie.com. "It's a hard line to walk, enticing younger viewers but still voting with integrity. Maybe the answer is expanding Academy membership to more young actors who will be able to choose 'young people movies' with a clear conscience."

"I'm a house divided on the Oscars and the youth audience," said Shylah Addante, who runs "Hunger Games" fan site Down With the Capitol. "On one hand, as a card-carrying fangirl, I absolutely understand the outrage about last night's 'Potter' snub. For a franchise that has touched the hearts and minds, not to mention the wallets, of so many people around the world for a decade, the absence of Oscar gold left me feeling like the Academy was full of Dementors. On the other hand, the fiercely proud side of me wants a film to win an Oscar because it deserves it — not because it's a tentpole franchise or because it made one bajillion dollars worldwide. If 'Hugo' was any lesson to young Oscar viewers, it is that, in the right hands, a children's/young adult book can become a film worthy of major awards."

"It's a very, very hard line to teeter on. I have full sympathy for the people who are trying to organize it," Vilkomerson said. "It just shows how challenging it is to put on a really good Oscar telecast that makes everyone happy, that hits everything that everybody wants. It's a hard, hard show to put on. Maybe next year, 'The Hunger Games' will be nominated and that will be the easiest way to interlace these two worlds."

Addante agreed with next year's potential for "The Hunger Games." " 'Potter' and 'Twilight' may not have wooed the Academy, but 'Hunger Games,' with its decorated cast and crew, contemporary social and political messages and dramatic plot, may just have what it takes to finally give some critical legitimacy to young adult series and their fans."

The MTV Movies team has the 2012 Oscars covered! Keep it locked at MTV.com for updates on the night's big winners and the best red-carpet fashion.

Miley Cyrus Talks Oscar Night Death Threat

It?s one of the unfortunate drawbacks of superstardom, and Miley Cyrus was on the receiving end of a nasty death threat from a crazy fan this past weekend.

The ?Hannah Montana? starlet was attacked on Twitter before the 84th Academy Awards, and she defended herself with a series of tweets.

In response to a message that she ?dresses like white trash? and is ?so f**king hideous,? Cyrus wrote, ?U have nothing better 2 do than hate? That saddens me. I?m surrounded by love I?m sorry 4 whatever happened 2 make u so bitter.?

Miley added, ?I won?t tolerate someone telling me 2 die. Twitter needs to take some responsibility and make it a safe environment.?

After the Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Viewing Party, Miley sounded more chipper-

"Thank you Sir Elton John for such a lovely night! Now to Vanity Fair. I love all the glitz & glam of the oscars & celebrating such talent!"

<P>Fans who want to hear some new music from <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> won't have to wait much longer. The singer has revealed that he's set to drop not one but two singles in the very near future. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="id:1672718" width="240" height="211"></div><p> First off, Bieber's <a href="/news/articles/1679414/justin-bieber-far-east-movement-studio-redone.jhtml">collaboration with Far East Movement</a>, which also features Party Rockers LMFAO, drops on Tuesday. The <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/justinbieber" target="_blank">Twitter</a> announcement for the release included the hashtag "#LiveMyLife," perhaps a hint as to the name of the song. The song's producer, RedOne, recently spoke to MTV News about the track. "I did a few songs with Far East Movement, and one of the songs ... to me, it's a smash," he said. "And Justin sang the chorus. It's a really good song, and I think people are gonna dance like crazy to it." In addition to the release, Bieber revealed that the first single off his forthcoming album <i>Believe</i> will drop in March. "And u guys keep asking. so yeah. my single is NEXT MONTH>#BELIEVE," he wrote. Little else is known about the song, but given the caliber of talent he's been recording with for the album of the same name, it's certain to be something his Beliebers will look forward to. For the album, he's hooked up with everyone from Pharrell and Rodney Jerkins to Drake, Lil Wayne, Timbaland and will.i.am. "The only conversation we've had about <a href="/news/articles/1675015/justin-bieber-new-album.jhtml">Justin's album</a> that we're about to do is it's really important that it's the proper transition, because we've seen him [with] 'Baby,' now we're watching him grow up," vocal producer Kuk Harrell told us. "And we can't just throw him into the adult game right away. It has to be the proper transition. There's a record in between." It's an exciting time for Bieber. As he continues to up his professional game, he's also about to celebrate a personal milestone: The teen star will turn 18 on March 1.</p>

K's version of Dylan's song is a slow-burning, heartbreaking ode to the already heartbreaking classic, where she channels Dylan through lyrics like "Still I wish there was somethin' you would do or say/ To try and make me change my mind and stay/ We never did too much talkin' anyway/ So don't think twice, it's all right." </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:642810" width="240" height="211"></div><p> Ke$ha had originally intended to record another Dylan track, but when she heard that someone else had their sights set on it, she settled on "Don't Think Twice," prompting a catharsis she could never have imagined. "This song was kind of an accident. I sat down and this is the first take that I ever sang," she recalled. "I just sat down on my bed for the first time after months of being on tour and I just started crying, and it was kind of like an emotional purging, and you can hear it on the record." In addition to Ke$ha and her contribution, the album will feature 75 other Dylan classics recorded by nearly 80 artists including Adele, Miley Cyrus, "Glee" star Darren Criss, My Chemical Romance, Evan Rachel Wood and Sugarland. The album pays tribute to the 50th anniversary of Amnesty International.</p></p>

Ke$ha and Tokio are also up for Best peta2 ad along with Social Distortion frontman Mike Ness and Yelle. The Libby (as in "Liberation") Awards will be decided on January 17 by fan votes as well as peta2. Voting ends December 23. "Our nominees have all worked hard to shine their spotlights on a variety of important animal issues," peta2 Division Manager Marta Holmberg said about the nominees, which honors animal-friendly people and products. "As our accomplished stars demonstrate, compassion isn't just a virtue &#8212; it's also a road to success."</p>

<P>You kind of can't go wrong when the soundtrack you've put together for one of the most eagerly anticipated literary adaptations in years kicks off <a href="/music/artist/yeah_yeah_yeahs/artist.jhtml">Yeah Yeah Yeahs</a> singer Karen O's take on <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</a>'s "Immigrant Song." </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:693384" width="240" height="211"></div><p> Fans heard the throbbing industrial take on the rock classic cooked up by former Nine Inch Nails mastermind and O when a trailer for the David Fincher-directed "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" leaked back in May. And on Thursday, Oscar-winning industrial-rocker-turned-film composer Reznor and musical partner Atticus Ross unveiled the full track list for their "Tattoo" score album. The follow-up to their award-winning "The Social Network" score was a labor of love, according to a <a href="http://nin.com/?id=102677" target="_blank">post</a> Reznor put up on the NIN site on Thursday announcing the disc. "For the last fourteen months Atticus and I have been hard at work on David Fincher's 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,' " he wrote about the American version of the tale of pierced and punished hacker <a href="/news/articles/1655879/rooney-mara-dragon-tattoo.jhtml">Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara)</a> and her muckraking journalist compatriot <a href="/news/articles/1667542/daniel-craig-rooney-mara-girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo.jhtml">Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig)</a>. "We laughed, we cried, we lost our minds and in the process made some of the most beautiful and disturbing music of our careers. The result is a sprawling three-hour opus." The album will be released on iTunes on December 9 in two versions. Right now, you can download the Karen O song on iTunes when you pre-order the 39-track album. That download purchase will also give you a link to the <a href="/news/articles/1675297/girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo-trailer-extended.jhtml">eight-minute "Dragon Tattoo" trailer</a>, for which Reznor and Ross created a unique score. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:674399" width="240" height="211"></div><p> But, if you visit the <a href="http://www.nullco.com/GDT/usd.php" target="_blank">NIN online store</a>, Reznor is offering the soundtrack in a variety of forms, from a free six-track sampler to a deluxe 3,000-piece limited-edition signed $300 package with your choice of MP3 formats; the full album on six pieces of 180 gram vinyl; a deluxe book package with a metal cover; an exclusive custom 8 GB metal razor blade USB drive pendant containing the full album; and a fold-out poster. Sacha Baron Cohen's Dictator Spills Ashes On Ryan Seacrest At Oscars

Republic of Wadiya's leader was armed with an urn purportedly containing ashes of Kim Jong Il on Sunday night.

True to his word and the threats he made on live television, Sacha Baron Cohen arrived on the red carpet for the 2012 Oscars in character as General Aladeen, the leader from his upcoming movie "The Dictator."

But appearing as the Dictator was just the beginning. Once he hit the carpet, Baron Cohen made as big a scene as many imagined he would as Ryan Seacrest became the unwitting victim of the actor's publicity stunt. Armed with an urn supposedly containing the ashes of North Korea's Kim Jong Il, Baron Cohen spilled the powdery contents of the container all over the E! host and his tuxedo.

It was the final moment in a long battle of the wills with the Academy, which Baron Cohen ultimately won, resulting in his appearance in character as the ruler of the fictional nation, the Republic of Wadiya, flanked by his female security entourage.

The appearance came after a long, public battle between the producers of the show and Baron Cohen, who was initially invited because of his involvement in Best Picture nominee "Hugo." Word soon leaked out that Baron Cohen planned to walk the carpet in costume to promote his new film. It wasn't long before the Academy pulled his tickets in an attempt to discourage his turning the red carpet into a self-promotional platform.

Soon after the ban, Baron Cohen went on the offensive, releasing a statement in character and threatening the Academy if his tickets were not honored.

"While I applaud the Academy for taking away my right to free speech, I warn you that if you do not lift your sanctions and give me my tickets back by 12 p.m. on Sunday, you will face unimaginable consequences."

Luckily for the Academy, they allowed Baron Cohen to walk the carpet in his large hair, beard and military garb. Not long after the reversal on the decision, Oscar 2012 producer Brian Grazer told "Extra" that he was excited for Baron Cohen's appearance. "We're thrilled to have him and he'll be on the red carpet, I guess, dressed as the Dictator," he said.

'Harry Potter' Snubbed By Oscars, But Not By Nerds!

The Oscars might be the biggest night of the year in Hollywood, but it'll lack a whole lot of magic thanks to the Academy's regrettable decision to to snub "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2." The conclusion to the "Potter" saga was more than deserving of a Best Picture nomination at the very [...]
